Anykščiai Spa, Lithuania
The Anykščiai Spa in Lithuania was designed by DesignCell for an architectural competition. The goal of the competition, sponsored by SPA Vilnius Anykščiai, was to create a boutique hotel concept that integrated the spa’s existing buildings while maintaining a visual separation.
Designed to be integrated into the forest landscape reserve, Sventoji River, and Marciupis stream valley, all aspects of the spa aim to enhance its natural surroundings. The locations and sharp angles of the buildings were chosen to not only satisfy solar requirements, but to highlight the beautiful views of the site.
Using triangles of differing heights, the design allows more sun from the west, exciting views from the interior, and additional dynamics to the building. It also allows the developer to preserve the existing trees on the site without interfering with the natural sunlight.
The project includes three separate building laid out in the form of a branch. The first of the three buildings houses the existing hotel, restaurant, and conference halls. The Spa hotel rooms inhabit the second building, with reception located in the middle of the two buildings. The property also includes an adult’s pool, a children’s pool, a lounge and bar area, three different saunas, and an ambient zone.
